I live in Oakland CA known as baby
Iraq because of all the violence that happens there. I live in East Oakland, my
neighborhood is 28Th. A nickname for my neighborhood is the ' Murder Dubs'
people associate the dubs for notorious crimes. My neighborhood is a mixed community
of African American, Cambodia, and people of my race Latinos. In my
neighborhood middle class people stay in apartments or in small houses that
they can afford. Some people in my neighborhood are supported through section 8
housing or some sort of low income housing. I live in apartment with my family
we try to block off the negativity associated with my "HOOD", because
it’s very important to stay positive in a neighborhood like mine. There a store
on every corner a lot of young teenagers hang out in front of stores. Store
owners usually call the police because they notice suspicious activity, so you hear
a lot of sirens. Do to all the different neighborhoods in East Oakland well
Oakland period, a lot of people feel territorial so a lot of senseless violence
occurs.
The rich and wealthy people live in
expensive houses in the “Oakland hills”. Oakland Hills is the opposite of what
you see in other parts of Oakland. There are giant houses with great views and
nice cars. It may look completely different from regular parts of Oakland, but
some of the same crimes still occur there. Because criminals figure that’s were
the big money is. Oakland is ranked number five of the world’s most dangerous
cities. Even though all those facts are true my city does a lot of positive
things. Of course the world is going to focus on the negative America Is based
of negativity. Every year in my neighborhood we get together and have a big
party outside. The party is normally called a block party. Block parties
usually is the place where kids can play, adults can dance, and sometime there
are local surprise guest performers.
Every year people in my neighborhood look forward to my blocks party,
great food, lots of laughter just a great time all around.
Although a lot of things happen in
Oakland CA particularly my neighborhood “The Dubs” I am proud to be where I am
from. It has made me who I am in spite of everything that happens there I remain
positive because I know there is always hope.
