Internship Tips

1. Set goals that you would want to accomplish at internship

I ranked this number one because I think that for everything that you do in life you are suppose to set goals for it. How I plan to apply this is that in internship I will set a goal of doing all the work that I am given as best as I can

2. Do the job well no matter the amount of it

I ranked this number two because I think that you are always suppose to do the job well even if you have a small of big project were you work at. How I plan to apply this in internship is that I will try my best to finish all my assignments on time

3. Take your work seriously

I ranked this third because you have to take all the work you are given at your job serious because working is not a game you can get fired for anything. How I will apply this in internship is that I will take all my assignments that I am given seriously and try my best to finish them correctly.

4. Make your deadlines on time

I ranked this fourth because you will be looked at badly if you always finish your work late and not on time. How I will apply this to my internship is that I will try to make every deadline that I am given on a assignment.

5. Take feedback to better yourself

I ranked this fifth because with feedback you can better yourself as a worker, how that will happen is because you will know what you need to improve on. How I will apply this to internship is that I will use the feedback that I am given to better myself as a hard worker.

6. Be proactive and social

I ranked this sixth because being proactive on a work place would make you look good because everyone that works with you will see how serious you take your job. How I will apply this at internship is that when I am done with the work that I am given I will ask my colleagues if they need any help with their work.

7.Be enthusiastic and Curious

I ranked this seventh because you always have to have enthusiasm and have to be curious when you are doing something at work because if you do not you will have a bad working experience. How I will apply this to my internship is that I will ask questions about the projects that I am going to be work on and also being enthusiastic about the work that I will be doing and also about finishing it on time

8. Networking

I ranked this eight because you always got to network in any environment that you are to get to know people in your job. How I will use this in internship is that I will network with my colleagues outside of the work place because work is one thing and networking is another.

9. Ask for advice

I ranked this ninth because i think that it is important to ask for advice after you are done with your internship time but you can also ask for advice while you are in internship. How I will use this in internship is that I will ask for advice from people that are working in the IT field of how to do things that do not know how to do yet.

10. Leave with tangible accomplishments

I ranked this tenth because you got to see all the accomplishments that you have made through the time that you had in your internship, How I will apply this is that I will take a notebook to my internship and write down all the accomplishments that I have made and all the goals I conquered.

Volunteer Job

The only volunteer job that I have done is gardening. I use to garden for a program called Oakland Leaf; we use to go garden in elementary school in Oakland. Some primary responsibilities that I had were that I had to finish the spot that I was gardening at it all depended the days. Some days I had to plant vegetables, fruits and plants. Other days I had to remove all of the items that were dead. A skill that I developed was accountability because I had to be accountable of the section that I was working if I finished it or not. Another skill that I developed was to work under any circumstance because some times that I use to be working the weather use to be extremely hot it use to make me want to quit but I did do I just keep on doing my work until I finished it no matter of how the weather was. I tried to do all my gardening consummately because I would want my work to be done perfect. The lesson that I learned was that I could garden even do I am a man. I use to think that only women use to garden but I was wrong.

Non Fiction Book Review

 The book Freakonomics is about opinions of the two authors. The author wrote this book because they want to give their advices on the problems that are happening in the world. The specific passage that left an impression was the chapter that talked about drug dealers living with their parents still. The effect that it had was that it let me know why drug dealers do not want to move from their parents’ house and the reasons behind it. The chapter that inspired the richest discussion in my book group is the same chapter about drug dealers living at home with their parents. People in my group shared opinions about how they felt about drug dealers living at home with their parents and we discussed why they might still stay at home with their parents. Some examples might be that the drug dealers are saving money or that they think that they would not get caught having their drugs in their house.

Some chapters of the book you could read them easily because you really get into them other chapters were more boring  and had words that you cannot understand so you would have to go back and look for the definition so you would know the meaning of the word. I would recommend the book to someone that would actually take the time out of their schedule to read it because some of the chapters are more challenging than others. Also because the book does not have one theme that it talks about it switches it every chapter so you will probably get confused of what you are reading but you just go to go with the flow. If you do not have time to read the book i would not recommend it to you because you will not read it and you will get left behind in the chapters that are being read also the chapter are pretty long.

Process of Reading

The reading process had been good for me I use to not like reading books but since we have assigned roles every week now I have got more into reading. An active strategy that I have employed is to read the book once I get home or when I do not have anything to do so like on my spare time. The ways that I have annotated the book while I am reading is that I write down questions that I have about a certain paragraph or quote. How it helped me is that it makes me want to go back in the book after I am done reading and try to find out the answer of the question I had.

Advice that I would give another reader to help them with retention and understanding of the book is to read the book when they have time and do not have any distractions at all. Also write down questions that you have about the book as you read and go back to them once you are done so you can answer them yourself, by doing that you will retain more knowledge about the book. My final advice would be to be an endeavor about the book so have the mentality to want to learn more about the book instead of just reading it because you have to.

How I made sure that I was keeping up with the assigned reading schedule is that I would try to read at least for an hour once I got home so I would not forget.
